The award was presented at Toyota's 2005 Supplier Convention in Nagoya, Japan.Only four suppliers worldwide earned the Global Contribution Awards, which are among Toyota's annual "Grand Awards." The Global Contribution Award represents one of the automaker's highest supplier honors. Johnson Controls was the only supplier of vehicle interior products -- and one of only two U.S. companies -- to gain top recognition this year. Toyota suppliers that have international business relationships with the automaker are eligible for Global Contribution Awards. Those considered for top honors must provide Toyota with consistent value, perform in an outstanding fashion, and fully comply with the automaker's purchasing policies and other key standards throughout the year. John Barth, chairman and chief executive officer for Johnson Controls, accepted the 2004 Global Contribution Award from Toyota Chairman Hiroshi Okuda. The awards ceremony was held in March. Barth called the Global Contribution Award a great honor from one of the world's premier automotive companies, and thanked Toyota for recognizing the contributions Johnson Controls makes towards its success.
